PM makes fervent appeal to people to save every drop of water

NEW DELHI : Noting that several parts of the the country were reeling under severe drought and grilling heat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly Mann Ki Baat programme on AIR today made fervent appeal to people to save every drop of water, and also stressed the need of finding a long-term solution of the problem.
He urged farmers to adopt micro and drip irrigation to save water adopting the motto of ”per drop more crop”.
The Prime Minister also made a strong pitch for adopting new technology and for mobile app based banking to make the society cashless. Besides, he also highlighted the importance of Yoga and urged the countrymen to make it part of their daily life.
The Prime Minister also showered a lavish praise on his Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal, who is going to take oath as chief minister fo Assam after the BJP’s victory in the state Assembly election, for his concern about players in the midst of declaration of of election results.
Mr Modi devoted a fair part of his talks today to the prevailing drought in 11 states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and also about the delay in monsoon and extreme heat in addition to the forest fires and ascribed the extremes of weather to the environmental degradation caused by human activities.
He said he held individual meetings with the chief ministers of the drought-affected states to understand the specific problem of their states, other wise he would have held a collective meeting of all the chief ministers.
The Prime Minister praised the performance of some states in water conservation, fodder supply and economical irrigation and said he had asked the NITI Aayog to study the best practices and extend it to other states.
He, however, underlined the importance of involving people in the conservation and storage of water.
”Paani Parmatma ka prasad hai”(Water is a god gift) and so every drop of water should be lapped up as a most sacred thing, he said.
