Addressing people through monthly Radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ this morning, Modi also referred to 26/11 Mumbai terror attack saying India faced the most heinous attack on this day but it was the country’s capability that it recovered from that assault and was also crushing terrorism with all its courage.
“Basohli Utsav was organized in Kathua district a few weeks ago. This place is 150 kilometres from Jammu. Local art, folk dance and traditional Ramlila were organized in this festival,” the Prime Minister said.
Basohli Utsav was organized during Navratras by Vishwasthali, an organization founded in nineties by Shakti Pathak, now an IPS officer and DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had also attended the Basohli Utsav which will now be a permanent feature in every Navratras in October. Recently, Basohli Paintings and Pashmina got the GI tag.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh, Lok Sabha member from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda seat, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for mentioning Basohli Utsav in Mann Ki Baat.
“This has encouraged all of us and gave us energy to work with more force,” Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the holding of ‘Chhau’ festival in Srinagar from 15th to 17th November with the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
“Everyone enjoyed the ‘Chhau’ dance in this programme. A workshop was also organized to impart training in ‘Chhau’ dance to the youth of Srinagar,” Modi said.
Referring to fairs being organized in India, he said then the idea of a competition also came in mind in which people would share photos related to fairs.
“From interesting events in Jammu and Kashmir, a unique competition in different Melas across India to a commendable programme in Saudi Arabia, highlighted how Indian culture is making a strong impact. Similar to the festival in each village, diverse dance styles also possessed their own cultural legacy,” the Prime Minister said.
He also referred to Ladakhi Pashmina Shawl in the Mann Ki Baat.
“I want to share with all of you an inspiring example of Ladakh. You certainly must have heard about the Pashmina Shawl, Ladakhi Pashmina is also being discussed a lot for some time now. Ladakhi Pashmina is reaching the markets around the world under the name of `Looms of Ladakh’. You will be surprised to know that more than 450 women from 15 villages are involved in weaving them,” Modi said.
He said earlier they used to sell their products only to the tourists coming there but now in this era of Digital India, the produce made by them have started reaching different markets in the country and the world.
This, he said, means our local is now becoming global and on account of that the earnings of these women have also increased.
Meanwhile, Modi also paid homage to all those who lost their lives in the Mumbai attack and noted that the nation is remembering the brave martyrs.
“We can never forget November 26. It was on this day that the most heinous terrorist attack took place in the country. Terrorists had shaken Mumbai and the entire country. But, it is India’s capability that we recovered from that attack and now we are also crushing terrorism with full courage,” he asserted.
On November 26, 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived by sea route and opened fire, killing 166 people, including 18 security personnel, and injuring several others during a 60-hour siege in Mumbai.
The Prime Minister also noted that November 26 is also important for another reason as in 1949, the Constituent Assembly had adopted the Constitution of India on this day
“I remember when we were celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar in 2015, the idea came that November 26 be celebrated as Constitution Day… I extend wishes to all on Constitution day,” he said.
“”All of us together, by giving priorities to the duties of the citizens, will definitely fulfil the resolve of making the country developed,” Modi said.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister also said business of around Rs 4 lakh crore took place during recent festivals and a lot of enthusiasm was seen among people to buy made-in-India products.
Modi also questioned the practice of some families organising weddings abroad and urged all to hold such celebrations within the country.
