RANGIA (ASSAM), Feb 23 : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said here today that as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had visited Northeast more than forty times in just over six years, which could be more than the total number of visits of all his predecessors put together.
Responding to a statement made by APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) President, Ripun Bora that Prime Minister Modi had visited Assam on the eve of election, Dr. Jitendra Singh retorted back saying that former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, even though he was elected Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Assam, hardly visited Assam. During the UPA Government, Assam was driven back several decades behind in terms of development and growth.
Addressing a public rally here today, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, it was Prime Minister Modi’s personal outreach which percolated down to the bottom and contributed to a revolutionary transformation in the region including Assam. The pace of development, he said, gained further momentum after the BJP government took over in the State in 2016 and there was a perfect coordination in implementation of various central schemes and pushing forward various central projects.
It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, who initiated the novel experiment of arranging fortnightly tours by Central Ministers who would make on-the-spot assessment of various projects and strike a direct rapport with local population. Till about six years back, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, Assam made news for protest, agitations and hartals and development has come to a standstill.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, today Guwahati has an international airport at par with any upgraded airport of the country while a double gauge rail track is being laid all over the State. The work on developing inland waterways was also initiated during this period, he said.
