PM to review ‘Make in India’ plan tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold meeting with senior ministers, top bureaucrats and captains of industries here tomorrow to chalk out a clear-cut plan for giving a push to manufacturing sector through the ambitious Make-in-India programme.
Before finalisation of the blueprint, the Prime Minister will be given a brief presentation being put up together by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). The DIPP has been recieving inputs from the apex industry chambers including CII and FICCI. Besides these two chambers will be given specific responsibilities of monitoring and implementing the Make-in-India programme.
As many as 25 sub segments of the industrial productions have been identified for the government push, industry sources said. While the manufacturing contributes only 15-17 per cent of India’s GDP, the sector needs to grow at a much faster pace so that its share in the GDP can touch about 25 per cent by 2022. On its part giving a filip to the manufacturing has been identified as a major priority of the government. Industrial production declined by 4.2 per cent in October, the sharpest decline in at least two years, on poor show by manufacturing sector and dip in the output of capital as well as consumer goods.
16 of the 22 industry groups in manufacturing sector showed negative growth in October.
