PM should announce pending DA of Govt employees: NMC

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 9: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today urged the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh to announce the pending installment of seven percent Dearness Allowance (DA), due since July this year in favour of both Central and State Government employees at the next Cabinet meeting.
Addressing a largely attended NMC workers rally at Jhiri, NMC president, Subhash Shastri said that salaried class was facing a lot of economic hardship due to high inflation and price rise, adding the release of DA would be a genuine measure to provide some relief to them.
The delay in release of DA would not only put burden on the Central Government exchequer to liquidate the arrears but also increase the difficulties of both Central and State Governments, he further said.
He pointed out that DA of employees and pensioners has gone up to 65%, as it exceeded more than 50% after the release of DA from January 1, 2011, so the Government should merge 50% DA with basic pay or pension and pay remaining 15% in accordance with the merged basic salary or pension of employees and pensioners.
Shastri also demanded remuneration of Rs 300 per day for daily wagers working in various departments, regularization of daily rated workers, grant of disturbed areas allowance on the pattern of North-Eastern States to all Government employees, implementation of all Central labour laws and declaring Jammu and Srinagar cities as B-1 cities.
Among others spoke on the occasion were Rajan Babu Khajuria, Sunil Kochhar, Sham Lal Sharma, Rakesh Padha, Ashok Khajuria and many others.
