Will speak to SHGs on March 6

JAMMU, Feb 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Kashmir on March 7 to address a public rally and launch various schemes. He will also virtually address the women Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Jammu and Kashmir along with other States/UTs on March 6 from New Delhi via video conferencing ahead of International Women’s Day.
Modi will address a public rally in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district where he will also launch some Schemes and interact with beneficiaries of welfare schemes.
Public rally of the Prime Minister will signal launch of BJP’s election campaign for Lok Sabha elections in the Kashmir valley.
This would be the Prime Minister’s first visit to the Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The BJP is focussing on the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat which comprises of the South Kashmir areas of Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag, and Rajouri-Poonch areas in Jammu.
Before delimitation of the constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, Anantnag seat comprised only of the four south Kashmir districts — Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama and Anantnag.
The seat was won by National Conference’s Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The visit would be the Prime Minister’s first visit to the Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories in August 2019 by the Centre.
However, this would be Modi’s second visit to J&K in less than a month. The PM addressed a public rally in Jammu on February 20 during which he also unveiled multiple development projects totalling over Rs 32,000 crore.
Detailed schedule of the Prime Minister’s visit to Kashmir is expected to be released shortly.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will also address women Self Help Groups and others through video conferencing across the country including Jammu and Kashmir on March 6, two days ahead of International Women’s Day.
The International Women’s Day on March 8 coincides with Shivratri festival this year.
