PM urged to declare Int’l Workers Day as gazetted holiday

JAMMU, Apr 25: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the International Workers’ Day as a gazetted holiday across the country, as a befitting tribute to the May Day martyrs.
In a memorandum sent to the PM, NMC president, Subhash Shastri, said because of the May Day martyrs, the working class got their rights across the world and India being the largest and most vibrant democracy and the frontline welfare state should also declare May 1 as gazetted holiday.
Shastri also urged Modi to immediately accept Ashok Lavasa headed by high power committee recommendations in which the committee has recommended to the Centre Government to enhance minimum salary of the lower staff from Rs 18000 to Rs 21000 in view of sharp increase in process of essential commodities.
Setting up of National Wage Commission, besides enhancing the wages of the daily rated workers to Rs 500 per day, and other demands were also highlighted in the memorandum.
