DODA, June 14: Expressing concern over poor road connectivity in Doda district, general secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Thakur Balbir Singh today said that works on the projects under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in Seraj area of Doda district are going on snail’s pace because authorities concerned have failed to monitor the work on these projects.
Mr Singh, while addressing a public meeting at Kashtigarh area in which large number of people joined PDP, said that poor road connectivity is the biggest problem in this belt but the authorities are non serious. He said that various road projects under PMGSY are on papers for improving road network but on the grounds nothing has been done.
He said that majority of the projects in this belt have been abandoned mid-way by the contractors. He demanded that contractors who have left the works incomplete should be black listed and works should be re-alloted to other contractors to minimize miseries of the people. He observed that Kashtigarh area of Seraj belt is worst victim of the successive state governments because representatives of this region have failed to effectively take up peoples’ issue at appropriate platform.
Pointing towards other problems being faced by the locals, he regretted that despite being situated on the bank of the river Chenab, residents of this belt have to struggle for getting basic amenities like drinking water and power. He said that power generated from this belt is being supplied to whole country but the locals are deprived.
He also expressed his concern over virtually defunct health facilities in this belt and regretted that despite repeated assurances nothing has been done to provide health facilities to the people.
