RAJOURI, Nov 11: An awareness programme for consumers on price monitoring and availability of pharmaceutical drugs was organized here today by the Price Monitoring & Resource Unit, J&K, under the aegis of Drugs & Food Control Organisation, J&K.
The objective of the programme was to highlight the importance of affordability and availability of safe, quality and efficacious drugs to the end users and to ensure that there is no shortage of drugs in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Vikas Kundal was the chief guest of the function while as prominent dignitaries from Health Department and representatives from Pharmaceutical Associations and Drug regulatory authorities were present in the Programme.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Rajouri enlightened the participants about various challenges surrounding the field. He sought active co-operation of all stakeholders for bringing effective changes in the pricing scenario of drug molecules. He said that the Department shall continue to organize several awareness programmes to rope in support for the PMRU initiatives.
State Drug Controller Lotika Khajuria gave a detailed overview of the activities undertaken by PRMU of the UT. She expressed satisfaction over the working of PMRU in J&K and informed that NPPA is maintaining surveillance over pricing of drug molecules to accord broader coverage to existing list of capped formulations (Scheduled & Non-Scheduled).
Mohd Iqbal Palla (Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu) gave a comprehensive speech covering all activities undertaken by NPPA and PMRU. He explained the mechanism and approach required to expose incidents of overcharging by pharma companies for initialing action by NPPA.
Surinder Mohan Tikoo, Assistant Drugs Controller,( HQ) J&K added that PMRU can play an important role in the healthcare system as our BPL population can get benefitted if drug molecules are prescribed in generic names only.
Hinna Hamid gave a detailed PowerPoint Presentation highlighting the achievements of PMRU Unit while Archana Mujoo (Assistant Controller Drugs) offered vote of thanks to the participants.
