PM’s rallies — Sidelights

* Today’s twin rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sports Stadium in Kathua and New Bus Stand in Rajouri were the biggest ever in the history of two districts, according to elderly people and political observers, who said never in the past such a sea of humanity has turned up to listen to any political leader.
* Such was the rush of people in Rajouri that many of them had to sit on surrounding hills, climb on trees and roofs of adjacent houses to listen and have a glimpse of the Prime Minister. Almost similar was the position in Kathua.
* Modi’s rally at Rajouri was his seventh election rally in Jammu and Kashmir. He had addressed six rallies at Kishtwar, Udhampur, Poonch, Samba, Srinagar and Kathua. He is scheduled to address two more rallies on December 16-one at Mandli in Billawar and another at MA Stadium, Jammu. The BJP was planning to arrange another rally of the Prime Minister at Jourian the same day.
* Political observers were of the view that all six election rallies of Modi in Jammu were the biggest ever in the history.
* In both the rallies, the enthusiastic crowd continued to shout `Modi-Modi’ slogans till the Prime Minister left the spots. The crowd responded to the Prime Minister’s calls whenever he sought their response with Yes or No.
* The Prime Minister, whose dress code has also become very popular among the people, was today wearing full sleeve white kurta pyjama and red basket.
* Modi had special mention of former BJP president and Hiranagar MLA Thakur Baldev Singh in his speech. He addressed him as `Thakur Sahib’.
* Modi said India was shining at international level and 125 crore Indians felt pride after the United Nations declared June 21 as `Vishaw Yog Divas’. He added that Yoga was there was thousands of years but the previous Governments didn’t take up it at the international level. The new Government has done it and succeeded.
* In previous five elections rallies in Jammu and Kashmir, Modi has confined his address to 30 minutes. Today, he addressed both the rallies for 40 minutes.
* In Rajouri, authorities had to close traffic on Jammu-Poonch road at Rajouri as several people, who were unable to find place at the rally venue, gathered on the road to listen to the Prime Minister.
*At both places, Kathua and Rajouri, it took authorities more than two to three hours to clear rush of traffic and crowd after the Prime Minister had left the spot. People had to trek several kilometers distance on foot in Rajouri to reach the rally venue.
* Modi described land of Rajouri as `Veerbhoomi’ and Sufi Saints including Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah  and lauded the people for braving the bullets.
*At Kathua, BJP candidates for Kathua and Hiranagar-Rajeev Jasrotia and Kuldeep Kumar were present at the rally while in Rajouri BJP candidates for all four seats of the district including Talib Hussain (Rajouri), Ravinder Raina (Nowshera), Abdul Gani Kohli (Kalakote) and Puran Singh (Darhal) were present.
