JAMMU, Mar 20: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) today held protest rally at Exhibition Ground near Press Club alleging that the Rs 2000 cr package announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is incomplete till the other components are included in it.
A large number of displaced persons including women activists under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front-1947, 65 & 71 assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club at 11 am and started protest rally. They were raising slogans in support of their demands. Many of them were also carrying banners and placards in hands, depicting their demands.
Though they expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for announcing Rs 2000 crore financial package but claimed that it was incomplete as other issues with regard to political, social, education and reservation etc for their wards were set aside and not included in the package. There is no clarity in PM’s package and all type of displaced persons were still confused.
Rachhpal Singh Chib, president of the Front, while addressing the large gathering of refugees said that Parliamentary Standing Committee of Home Affairs and JAC had strongly recommended comprehensive package. But without the inclusion of political, social and educational components, the said package will remain incomplete.
Mr Chib said the vote bank of displaced persons changed the political scenario in the State during previous Assembly elections. Mr Modi had made tall announcement of package before elections at Hiranagar rally but that has not been fulfilled and the members of the community are watching this all very closely.
Mr Chib also sought the intervention of Governor N N Vohra regarding disbursement and fate of Rs 112 crore package for the rehabilitation of refugees announced by Atal Behari Vajpayee Govt on Aug 9, 2000 and fix responsibility on the officials concerned including the then Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Mr Wani who instead of punishment was rewarded later with prize posting. He also demanded that refugee leaders should be taken into confidence before disbursement of financial package.
