PM’s Scholarship

Harassment of students in any educational or professional institute in which students from other states have sought admission under some specific scheme is unacceptable. They cannot be discriminated against for one or the other reason. They are the citizens of India and enjoy full civil and human rights at par with any other citizen. Under a  scheme called Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) students from the State were granted admission in specific institutions outside the State and were given good scholarship per month to meet the expenses for qualifying themselves. Some of these students have complained that they are harassed and discriminated against and put at disadvantage in some respect. Some have complained that they had difficulty in getting admission to the institute while others have complained that they were threatened with the termination of their admission for delay in paying the fees etc. The PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti has met the Union Minister of HRD and demanded that harassment of students in these institutions should be put to an end.
While reiterating that harassment of students is not acceptable and they deserve to be treated at par with other students in the institution, it would be in fitness of things that the PDP leader meets some of the Heads of the Institutions and tries to find out the exact nature of the complaint and offer suggestions to resolve them once for all. We think this can be done in a spirit of helping students pursue their studies without distraction. Their career should not be threatened in any way. We firmly believe that through interaction at the highest level this issue can be resolved amicably.
