JAMMU, Feb 20: Provincial president of J&K National Conference for Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta today said that people of Jammu region have expressed great resentment over PM Narendra Modi’s Jammu visit as it has proved to be a underwhelming due to the absence of any new packages, promises, or announcements for the aspiring people of the region.
In a statement issued to the media persons, the NC leader said that the much awaited visit of PM Modi has shattered the dreams of the people who were expecting a lot from their Prime Minister as there are still many promises unfulfilled with refugees awaiting the pending compensation amount, unemployment making the educated youths restless, statehood, Assembly polls and so many other issues confronting the population with local administration remaining clueless on almost all these problems.
He said that except being an election rally there was nothing substantial for the people of Jammu or for that matter the entire UT as the projects launched by the PM could have been launched from any part of the country as everything was accomplished virtually.
Rattan Lal categorically criticized the visit by the PM, highlighting the missed opportunity to address key issues and provide much-needed relief to the people of the UT. He pointed out that while the Prime Minister inaugurated several projects, the visit failed to deliver any significant benefits or new initiatives for the people of the region as most of them left the venue disappointed.
The NC senior functionary emphasized on the need for concrete measures to address pressing issues such as unemployment, economic slowdown, restoration of political process and return of statehood besides continuing the process of ensuring governance as started by the NC Government during the tenure of Omar Abdullah because till date the helmsmen in J&K have not done anything significant in this direction except rhetoric for which the party in power is famous for.
He mentioned that several Industrial estates and Industrial towns which were established during the NC regime are on verge of closure today. The people of Jammu are decrying for regular supply of water and power but the incumbent government seems to be busy in selling power to the other state, he added.
