PNBMT concerned over deteriorating condition of temples in Valley

JAMMU, Dec 6: Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) organised a meeting today to discuss the issues related to the deteriorating condition of temples in Kashmir. The meeting also deliberated regarding the holding of Chetna Diwas, the mega event of the Trust and in view of the COVID- 19 conditions it was decided not to hold the event. However, a token of homage would be paid to the martyrs on the day.
The meeting chaired by Roshan Lal Pandita and the office bearers of the Trust present included its vice chairman, Shiban Khaibri, general secretary, Shadi Lal Koul Rais and secretary, Sundri Lal Koul.
Shadi Lal Koul Rais said that the vandalization of temples in Kashmir is going on in an unabated manner and the recent example of Shiva Bhagwati temple in Akingom in Anantnag district is a sordid tale. The chairman of the Shiva Bhagwati Trust Bhaskar Nath Reshi said that the management of the Trust had recently requested the Government to undertake some constructions in the temple but the structures were destroyed and vandalized and the temple belongings were also looted and stolen. The members urged the authorities to bring the culprits to justice.
Chairman Roshan Lal Pandita said that Pandits are loosing priceless heritage. He demanded passage of Temples and Shrines Bill without further delay.
Shiban Khaibri said that the passage of the Bill in Kashmir would act as a confidence building measure for the resettlement of KPs in Kashmir.
Other KP leaders present included Virender Raina, president, Panun Kashmir, Dr. R.L.Bhatt, M.M.Thaploo, Kashmiri Lal, H.L.Bhat, Sanjay Pandita, Subhash Chatta, B.L.Zar, Bushan Lal Nadimarg.
