The meeting among others was attended by the acting chairman of the Trust Shiban Khaibri, Kashmiri Lal Bhatt, Man Mohan Thaploo, H.L.Bhat, Shadi Lal Koul, M.K.Raina,C.L.Pandita, Sundri Lal Koul and Virender Raina.
Shiban Khaibri gave a detailed presentation in the meeting about the recently held meeting with the Advisor and said that the meeting was most successful and productive as the Advisor gave on the spot instructions to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to instruct all the concerned DCs to offer protection to the properties of the Temples and Shrines in Kashmir. He was also given an account about the condition of the Temples and Shrines in Kashmir and the members of the delegation impressed upon the Advisor of the urgent necessity of bringing a bill that would guarantee a Constitutional protection and institutional mechanism for their survival. The Advisor was also apprised about the bipartisan support that the said bill enjoyed across the political spectrum of the State.
M.K.Raina, president of the Jwala Ji Trust Khrew Kashmir expressed serious concern that the historical temple of Jwala Mata has been left completely unprotected for the last one year despite many requests to the authorities in Kashmir. It may be recalled that the Jwala Mata temple was getting protection by the presence of a company of Rashtriya Rifles that was stationed in the area. However, the company has moved since and as a result the Shrine is left completely unprotected at the moment. The shrine lands have also witnessed several attempts of encroachment in the recent past but for the timely vigilantism by the members of the Trust that such attempts have been thrawted. Raina also appealed to the authorities in Kashmir to immediately offer protection to the Jwala Ji temple.
The meeting also dwelt upon the upcoming programmes of “Amateur Journist Awards” and the mega event of “Chetna Diwas” observed every year to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the late Pt.Prem Nath Bhatt in Anantnag Kashmir in 1990. It was also decided to hold a public rally in the coming days to create a renewed consciousness amongst the KP population for the passage of the Temples and Shrines Bill in Kashmir.
