JAMMU, Dec 28: Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) organized the annual “Chetna Diwas” function today to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Pt Prem Nath Bhat, a leading advocate and prominent personality of Anantnag Kashmir who was assassinated on December 27, 1990.
The function began with the traditional lighting of the lamps and two minutes silence in memory of the martyrs and was followed by offering floral tributes to the portrait of Pt Prem Nath Bhat by the members of the Trust.
Bushan Lal Nadimarg elaborated regarding the life and times of Pt Prem Nath Bhat. Swamy Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram laid emphasis on the need to preserve the thousands of years of Sharda civilization in Kashmir.
Chairman of the Trust Roshan Lal Pandita in his opening remarks gave a brief overview if the activities of the Trust. He said that the PNBMT was mandated by the community to work for bringing a Bill in the Assembly for the protection and preservation of temples in Kashmir. The members of the trust worked tirelessly and with great devotion for the last one decade and succeeded in bringing the Temples Bill to the J&K Assembly but the Bill could not be passed due to political reasons.
Dr R L Bhat while speaking on the occasion said that the matter regarding the protection of Temples in Kashmir is not only important but urgent. “The temples are withering away with the passage of time and the appended properties and lands are being appropriated and usurped by the unscrupulous elements and the land mafia. Under these circumstances we appeal to the Lt Governor of J&K to bring a Bill and preserve the five thousand year old heritage of Kashmir for the posterity.
Secretary Sundri Lal briefed the members about the activities of the Trust and also conducted the proceedings of the function.
