JAMMU, Sept 3: Reiterating their old pending demand, Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) today once again appealed the Government for the passage of the Temples and Shrines Bill. This bill aims to protect, preserve, and reclaim ancient temples and shrines in Kashmir, representing over 5000 years of Hindu civilization. The trust has been working diligently for two decades to safeguard these temples, which have suffered neglect, vandalism, and land appropriation, particularly after the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits.
Addressing a meeting of the Kashmiri Pandit community, the Chairman of PNBMT, C.L. Pandita called upon the Government to pass an ordinance for the bill’s enactment, seeing it as crucial to preserving the faith’s symbols and building confidence among internally displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
Retired Sessions Judge B.L.Saraf a prominent member of the trust said that a bill alone can safeguard our temples. He said that a constitutional mechanism alone can save our temples because the KP community is in internal displacement and until the community returns to Kashmir, a legislation alone can save the temples.
Senior community leader M.L.Malla said that the temples of Kashmir are an essential component of our existence and we will always maintain an emotional connect with them.
Members were unanimous that the temples of Kashmir were an essential component of the faith of Kashmiri Hindus and are a living symbol of the history of Kashmir and are also an architectural marvel.
Prominent members, including B.L.Saraf, B.L.Zar, Ramesh Marhatta, Naveen Koul, Behari Lal Zar, M.K. Jalali, M.M. Thaploo, M.L. Malla, Kashmiri Lal Bhat, Naveen Handoo, and Sundri Lal Koul were also present at the meeting.
