KISHTWAR, Aug 18: The residents of Pochhal village near Kishtwar are facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last several weeks.
The locals of the area including Asha Bhandari, a social activist, expressed serious concern over an acute shortage of drinking water in village Pochhal of Tehsil Kishtwar as a result of which the villagers are suffering badly on account of drinking water.
She claimed that the villagers of Pochhal have to fetch drinking water after covering a long distance on foot which is a matter of great concern. The water pipes in their area remain dry for weeks. She said most affected are the residents residing in Upper Pochhal near Shiv Mandir. Some field staff members of the area have provided a few influential persons one inch water supply lines while majority have half inch lines as per standard guidelines all over J&K. Some people were even using motors for fetching more water and the upper mohalla remains without water.
The locals alleged that concerned PHE, JE, AEE and even XEn were informed about the issue, but they failed to resolve the issue and ensure regular and adequate water supply to the public. They sought intervention of DC Kishtwar and Chief Engineer PHE Jammu into the matter.
