JAMMU, Oct 16: Displaced Persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir today held protest demonstration, projecting their demands of allotment of 10 marla plots, provide 12 Assembly seats to the DPs from PoJK and releasing pending relief amount of Rs 24.5 lakhs in their favour.
A large number of displaced persons, under the banner of PoJK DPs’ Front 1947, 1965 and 1971 and (Non Camp) led by its president, Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib assembled at Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu today and started protest demonstration. They were demanding that DPs be given compensation @ Rs 30 lakh per family as recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The first installment of Rs 5.5 lakh per family stands disbursed while pending amount of Rs 24.50 lakhs should also be released under the PM Package.
Chib said huge Govt land has been retrieved from the land encroachers in Jammu and Kashmir recently and out of this, 10 marla plots be allotted to the PoJK DPs and other refugees of 1971. Land should also be allotted to non-camp refugees and others who have deficiency. He said nearly 300 pending files of DPs pertaining to PM package be cleared without any delay.
Capt Yudhvir regretted that Kashmiri migrants having population of over two lakhs have been provided two seats while PoJK DPs whose population is about 15 lakhs just one Assembly seat. He said this is grave injustice with the PoJK DPs. He demanded that at least 12 seats be allotted to the DPs from PoJK in the J&K Assembly. He also demanded benefits which are being provided to the KP migrants, in favour of PoJK/ Chhamb refugees.
Chib further demanded ST status for the DPs from PoJK, justifying that they are also Paharis being residents of Pak occupied areas of Jammu and Kashmir which remained parts of Rajouri and Poonch. Most of them are from Mirpur, Kotli, Poonch, Bagh, Muzaffrabad etc.
The PoJK DPs leader also congratulated the new Omar led Government in J&K and thanked the PM Modi for providing Rs 2000 cr package the to DPs. They also lauded BJP cadre for its better performance in Jammu region.
Prominent among those who accompanied Capt Chib included JP Sharma, KS Chib, Kulbir Singh, Sakandya Devi ( I/C Mahila Wing), Kehar Singh, Master Raghunath Singh, Ch Rattan Lal, Thoru Ram, Sham Singh and others.
