JAMMU, Feb 25: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) today held strong protest demonstration near Press Club here demanding disbursement of Rs 2000 crore package.
The members of displaced families from Bhimber, Mirpur, Deva Batala, Chhamb, Kotli, Bagh, Poonch and Muzaffrabad assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club at around 11 am today and started protest demonstration. They were also carrying banner and placards in hands projecting their demands.
The agitating DPs under the banner of PoJK Displaced Persons Front -1947, 65, 71 & (Non-Camp), led by Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib assembled at the decided venue and then tried to take out protest rally towards Civil Secretariat. But the strong police contingent stopped them from going ahead. They showed some resistance but police did not allow them to move ahead.
While addressing large gathering, Capt Chib demanded that Rs 2000 crore package announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be released and disbursed among the refugees/ DPs as first installment. He said that this package is not complete and all other recommendations made by the Joint Parlimentary Committee (JPC) be included in the package. The Govt should clarify all the points with regard to the package announced. The JPC had recommended Rs 30 lakh per family and that should be made the criteria.
He further demanded 15 % reservation for the wards of DPs in all the professional institutions and Govt jobs, reserve 24 Assembly seats for DPs of PoJK, enlist left out families of DPs yet not registered, ownership rights to the DPs on Evacuee property possessed by them, issuance of ALC certificate to all the DP families etc.
President Women wing of the organization, Sakandya Devi, Jaipal Sharma, R P Singh, Kulbir Singh, Sukhjinder, Thoru Ram also addressed the gathering. Later, holding protest demonstration for some time at the venue, the DPs dispersed.
