JAMMU, Dec 27: Displaced Persons of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir held a protest demonstration, here today, pressing for their long pending demands, including one time settlement package and nomination of the community members to at least 12 Assembly seats in J&K.
The protest demonstration was held under the banner of PoJK DPs’ Front at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, under the leadership of the Front President, Captain (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib, general secretary J P Sharma and secretary K S Chib.
Shouting slogans and carrying placards, the protesting DPs attempted to take out a march towards Civil Secretariat, but were stopped by heavy contingent of Police near Dogra Chowk.
While addressing the protesters, Capt Yudhvir Singh appealed the Central Government to release the one time settlement package for DPs, recommended by Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). “As the Government released only Rs 5.5 lakhs, out of Rs 30 lakhs for each family, as recommended by the JPC, we request PM Narendra Modi to re-consider our genuine problems and arrange to release remaining package to the tune of Rs 24. 5 lakh to the each DP family as one time settlement,” he said, adding that they have full faith on BJP Govt at the Centre under the leadership of PM Modi.
Capt Singh also appealed the J&K Government to give due attention to the issues of DPs (non-camp) 1971, such as allotment of custodian land to DPs as per the scale laid down in Cabinet Ordered No 578-C of 1954, allotment of 10 Marla residential plots to each (non-camp) DPS-1971 for construction of their houses, ST status to DPs of PoJK and nomination of at least 12 PoJK DPs to the J&K Assembly.
The DP leaders also sought intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo for release of payment to the DP families, whose files have been duly passed by the District Administration and sent to MHA.
Free ration and cash relief as well as Pucca accommodation to the PoJK DPs in Jammu on the analogy of Kashmiri migrants, was also demanded.
The protest demonstration was joined by J P Sharma, Kuldeep Singh Chib, Kulbir Singh Chib, Sakandya Devi, Kehar Singh Chib, Master Raghunath Singh, Ch Rattan Lal, Thoru Ram Chib, Sham Singh Chib, Hoshnaki Ram, Kamal Sharma, Ranjit Singh Chib and others.
