PoK refugees denied rights by State, Union Govts: Chuni

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 4: SOS International, an Organization for PoK Displaced Persons today organized a PoK refugees’ rally at Resham Ghar Colony, here today
SOS International chairman, Rajiv Chuni presided over the rally and threw light on various issues which are being faced by PoK refugees/displaced persons.
While addressing the rally, Mr Chuni said that PoK refugees have made several sacrifices since 1947 and it is very unfortunate that they have been denied their rights by several successive Governments in the State and the Centre, adding that the Central Govt has out-rightly rejected displaced persons’ package of Rs 25 lakh sent by the State Government which is unacceptable.
He said that PoK refugees have been given hollow assurances for the last 67 years but DPs will no longer tolerate this indifferent treatment by the Government and will carry out their revolution more comprehensively.
Cited an example of Valley migrants and PoK displaced persons, Mr Chuni said that the Valley migrants have been migrated during 1990’s and Government till date has spent Rs 34, 000 crore for 2 lakh Valley migrants, while on the other hand, there are more than 12 lakh PoK DPs who have been living in different parts of J&K and India in abject poverty but Government has spent only Rs 68 crore on them which is clear evidence that no Government is concerned to solve the problems of PoK Refugees
Mr Chuni further said that he submitted a memorandum to Union Government for early disposal of their demands as soon as possible. Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Pandit Narinder Kumar Sharma, Satpal Lakha, S Gurmeet Singh Isher, Roshan Lal, Bishan Saroop and Lalit Kumar.
