JAMMU, Aug 9: Demanding comprehensive settlement of their pending demands regarding compensation/ cash relief, refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) today staged protest demonstrated in front of the residences of two Congress MPs here against their alleged failure to help them in providing permanent rehabilitation package.
Led by PoK Refugee Front president Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh and  general secretary Rachhpal Singh Chib, a large number of refugees including women held demonstration in front of MPs Ch Lal Singh and Madan Lal Sharma’s houses for their alleged failure to take up their cause with the Central and State Governments. Later, the demonstrators also took out a protest rally in the city in support of their demands.
Mr Chib addressing gathering said the refugees are demanding a package for permanent rehabilitation of PoK Refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 in Jammu region. The Government and the public representatives are least bothered about the plight of refugees from this region.  He said the refugees would continue to hold protests and offer court arrests.
He pointed out that State Government has already forwarded the package for the refugees but the Centre has failed to approve it. No comprehensive settlement package, including compensation for lost property, loss of life, economic and political rights, has been provided to these families, Mr Chib claimed.
“A number of State and Central official committees, working groups were constituted and all of them recommended a comprehensive settlement package for these refugees but nothing was given to us”, he maintained.
The refugee leaders alleged that two MPs from Jammu province – Madan Lal Sharma and Lal Singh,  have not taken any interest in solving the problems of the region as a whole and  the refugees in particular. They said protests will compel them to raise the issue with the Central and State Governments during the current Monsoon Session of  the Parliament.
