A large number of PoK refugees including women, led by Capt Yudhvir Singh president and Rashpal Singh Chib general secretary of Jammu and Kashmir POK Refugee Front assembled near Press Club in the morning at around 10.30 am and then held demonstration. They were carrying placards and banners in their hands depicting demands.
Both the senior refugee leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the Central and the State Government for not addressing long pending demands of the displaced families from POK. They demanded comprehensive settlement of the DPs. They alleged that various political parties have only exploited them for   their vested interests and they continued to struggle for the last several decades.
After staging protest at Exhibition Ground, the protest rally moved towards Dogra Chowk and Nawabad Police Station. The police stopped them but they resisted police action. A large number of refugees then courted arrest there. Mr Chib claimed that nearly 200 DPs courted arrest but all of them were released in the afternoon.
