PoK refugees protest, offer court arrests

PoK refugees staging protest demonstration at Bakshi Nagar in Jammu on Monday.

JAMMU, Dec 31: A large number of refugees from Pak Occupied Jammu and Kashmir areas staged protest demonstration at Maheshpura Chowk, Bakshi Nagar here today.
The displaced people from  Chhamb, Deva-Batala, Manawar, Mirpur, Kotli, Bagh, parts of Poonch and Muzaffrabad, including large number of women, under the banner of PoK Refugee Front-1947, 65 and 71 assembled at Maheshpura Chowk here at around 10.30 am and held demonstration in support of their demands.
The refugees led by their leaders Capt Yudhvir Singh-president and general secretary- Rachhpal Singh Chib were leading. They also addressed the gathering. The protesters were shouting slogans against Government and projected their demand of comprehensive one time settlement. The leaders criticized the Government for causing delay in resolving the pending issues of the refugees. They alleged that meeting of PCC delegation with Prime Minister, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and the Home Minister in Delhi was just an eye-wash and refugees have been taken for granted by the political parties. They warned to intensify their struggle in near future.
Later, the refugees moved towards Baskshi Nagar Police Station and courted arrest. About 300 displaced persons are said to have offered court arrests. They were later freed by police.
