JAMMU, Aug 25: A large number of refugees from Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) held protest demonstration and dharna outside the residence of Member Parliament from Congress Party Madan Lal Sharma at Muthi here today.
The refugees in large number under the banner of PoK Refugee Front 1947, 1965, 1971 assembled near Muthi Morh under the leadership of Capt Yudhvir Singh (president) and Rashpal Singh Chib (general secretary) and then moved towards MP’s house. They were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands.
The refugees including large number of women were raising slogans in support of their demands. After reaching at MP’s house, they held demonstration followed by dharna. They demanded comprehensive settlement of the PoK refugees.
The refugee leaders while addressing large gathering criticized the UPA Government at the Centre and the respective State Governments for putting the demands of the refugees in the cold storage. They alleged that refugees from PoK have been struggling for the last more than six decades but Government has failed to provide them justice till date.
They alleged that meeting of the JKPCC leaders with the PM and AICC president Sonia Gandhi will yield no results as they have just agreed to frame yet another committee. The fate of Wadhwa Committee and several other committees is not known and yet another committee is being framed to befool the refugees. They said refugees have no hope of any outcome and they can not be befooled for long. They resolved to continue their struggle and intensify it in near future.
Meanwhile, Chhamb Displaced Persons Association led by S R Nagial has expressed gratitude to the State Congress delegation for taking up the issues of refugees with the Prime Minister and other Central leaders. He hoped that Central Government would provide justice to all categories of the refugees including West Pakistan/ Chhamb displaced persons. He said many refugees are residing in Vijaypur and Samba area and struggling since long.
