SRINAGAR, May 29: Police and Army in Pulwama have sought people’s help through posters for providing information regarding top militants including Lashkar-e-Toiba, South Kashmir chief, Abu Qasim, in exchange of huge rewards.
The posters in Urdu with contact numbers of police and Army and pictures of eight militants operating in South Kashmir appeared in the posters in district Pulwama today.
Police have sought people’s help for tracing out these militants in exchange of cash rewards and a Government job. The areas where these posters appeared include Sangarwani, Pulwama town, Tahab, Kakpora, Newa, Litter, Shadimarg, Rajpora and Ruhmou.
The poster reads: “The people are informed through these posters that the above persons are missing from their homes. After searches it has been found that they have joined Lashkar-e-Toiba. They are involved in loot, plunder and killings besides other crimes. People can share information with the police regarding these militants in exchange of huge rewards.”
Those whose names and pictures appeared in posters and are wanted by police and Army, are chief of LeT for South Kashmir, Mohammad Qasim, his deputy Abu Dujana of Pakistan, Shoukat Ahmad Lone son of Mohammad Abdullah Lone of Kakapora Pulwama and Adil Ahmad Shairgujri son of Mohammad Ashraf Shairgujri of Bandarpora in district Pulwama.
Another poster reads: “The people are informed through these posters that the above persons are missing from their homes since 27/03/2015. After searches it has been found that they have joined Hizbul Mujahideen. They are involved in loot, plunder and killings besides other crimes. People can share information with the police regarding these militants in exchange of huge rewards.”
Those whose names and pictures appeared in posters and are wanted by police and Army, are Nasir Pandit son of Ghulam Rasool Pandit, Tariq Ahmad Pandit son of Bashir Ahmad Pandit, Afaq Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat and Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Gani Bhat all residents of Karimabad, Pulwama.
Nasir Pandit was security guard at the residence of Minister for Roads and Buildings, Altaf Bukhari, and fled with two rifles from his home in March this year with the help of his three associates whose names appear in the posters. Police and Army have launched massive hunt for these men but so far they were not nabbed.
Meanwhile, in Shopian district of South Kashmir militants attacked police guard at Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Kandoora and snatched a Self Loading Rifle (SLR).
Reports said that three gunmen, one of whom entered the Bank and two were waiting outside fired at the constable Sartaj Ahmad who was injured and fled with his service rifle.
The militants fled from the scene and constable was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police and Army arrived on the spot and conducted searches of several areas to trace out the militants responsible for the attack.
An explosion took place in Sopore town tonight and it was not yet clear what was the device that exploded. However, sources said that it was a UBGL grenade that was thrown and it exploded without causing any damage.
Army today recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during a search operation in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Army’s 12 MLI regiment this morning launched a search operation at Aohi forest area along Line of Control in Kupwara district. “During searches, the forces found two IEDs and they were defused by experts without causing any damage”, he added.
In the meantime, posters of Lashkar-e-Islam again appeared in Kupwara and Pulwama districts asking telecoms to shut their operation or face consequences.
“Through this poster, we give first and last warning to the telecommunication people to dismantle towers, close all networks, marketing and recharge business,” a poster that surfaced in Drugmulla area of Kupwara district reads.
Similar threat posters also surfaced in Khanmoh and Khrew areas of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district warning the telecommunication operators to shut the business immediately.
