Police arrest 3 peddlers; 10 others booked under NDPS

Srinagar, Dec 1: Police today booked 10 notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS Act) in Srinagar.
As per authorities, these individuals have been booked after obtaining formal detention orders from the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, on the basis of dossiers prepared by Srinagar police against them.
The peddlers have been identified as namely Rizwan Bashir Dhobi, son of Bashir Ahmad Dhobi, resident of Sakidafar Safakadal (at present Grid Colony Srinagar); Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad Bhat, resident of Karnabal Takanwari Pora, Srinagar; Owais Hussain Mir, son of Sajad Hussain Mir, resident of Tangbagh, Nawpora, Srinagar; Nadeem Hussain Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Batwara, Srinagar; Sheikh Jibran Nisar, son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Batawara, Srinagar; Raqib Lateef Bhat alias Amir, son of Mohammad Lateef Bhat, resident of Bhat Mohalla, Aloochibagh, Srinagar; Abdul Ahad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat, resident of Banpora, Batamaloo, Srinagar; Moin Khan alias Moin, son of Ghulam Hassan Khan alias Mama, resident of Tengpora Bypass, Srinagar; Sajad Ahmad Beigh alias Boya, son of Late Abdul Hamid Beigh, resident of Madeena Colony, Allochibagh Sector B; and Arshid Ahmad Mir, son of Nazir Ahmad Mir, resident of Baghi Jogi Lanker, Rainawari.
Consequently, police said, these drug peddlers were detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal, Jammu, and District Jails of Bhaderwah, Udhampur and Kathua.
As per police, these drug peddlers have been involved in the peddling of narcotics among the youth of Srinagar on an alarming scale.
“Besides, they were also involved in several NDPS Act cases of various police stations of Srinagar. Despite several NDPS Act cases registered against them, they didn’t not mend their ways after getting bailed out from courts,” police said.
Police noted that these peddlers were brazenly promoting drugs among the youth of the Valley, especially in Srinagar, through their illegal narcotics network.
“Police have also set into motion the process to attach their properties under the provisions of PIT-NDPS Act,” authorities said.
Meanwhile, in a separate action, police have arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
As per authorities, police at a checkpoint established at Barthana intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK01J 7081 with two persons on board.
They have been identified as Arif Ahmad Sheikh son of Lateef Ahmad Sheikh resident of Barthana Qamarwari, and Asif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Razaq Sheikh, resident of Babapora Barthana.
During the search, police said, 628 grams of charas and 650 grams of cannabis powder were recovered from their possession.
“They have been arrested, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Meanwhile, in Sopore, a police party during patrolling at Chinkipora, arrested a drug -peddler, identified as Qaisar Rasool Khan, son of Ghulam Rasool Khan, resident of Faisalabad Chinkipora, Sopore.
“During the search, the police party was able to recover 7.36 grams of brown sugar from his possession,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated.
