Police arrests 4 drug peddlers

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: Police today arrested four drug peddlers from Srinagar and Kulgam, recovering codeine bottles and poppy straw from their possession.
According to authorities, a police party from the Bana mohallah police post, at a checkpoint established on Babdamb road near the stadium, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number UP16CN-8991 coming from Barbarshah towards Babdamb, with two persons on board.
“During search of the vehicle, 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered,” police said.
Both the accused, police said, have been identified as Ilyas Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Ramzan Dar, resident of Dar Mohallah Old Barzulla, Sanat Nagar, and Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Late Bashir Ahmad Dar, resident of Tengpora Srinagar.
“They have been arrested and shifted to the police station. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 50/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at the police station, and further investigation has been taken up.
In Kulgam, police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Authorities said that a police party from Police Station Kulgam, during patrolling in the village of Kaharwath, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK18D-4327 with two persons on board.
“During search, 250 grams of poppy straw filled in a bag was recovered from their possession,” police said.
The accused have been identified as Mashooq Ahmad Hella, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Batpora Kulgam, and Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, resident of Okey Kulgam.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 177/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kulgam, and an investigation has been taken up.
