Srinagar, Nov 19: Police today arrested six drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kulgam and Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Srinagar, a police team from Police Station Shaheed Gunj, during checking at Habakadal Chowk, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Sameer Majeed Khan, son of late Abdul Majeed Khan, a resident of Dadi Kadal Tankipora.
“During the search, 15 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession,” the police stated.
In a similar operation, a police team from Police Station Chanapora during Naka at Doodh Ganga Bund, arrested a drug peddler identified as Jan Manzoor Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Azad Basti Natipora.
“During the search, 5 grams of contraband (brown sugar) was recovered from his possession,” officials said.
Another arrest was made by a police team from Police Station Rajbagh during patrolling on Kursoo Aramwari Bund Road.
The accused, identified as Mohsin Abass Lone, son of Mohd Abass Lone, a resident of Wazir Bagh, was found in possession of 8 grams of brown sugar.
In Kulgam, a police team from Police Station Qazigund apprehended a drug-peddler during a checking near the Railway Bridge close to the Old BDO office.
The individual, identified as Bashir Ahmad Malik, son of Mohd Yousuf Malik, a resident of Chowgam, was found with 4.6 kilograms of ground cannabis and 45 grams of charas.
Meanwhile, in Kupwara, a police team from Police Station Trehgam intercepted a suspicious vehicle attempting to flee a checkpoint near Nerampora Bridge.
The vehicle, a Swift Dzire bearing registration number JK09B-3874, had two individuals on board, identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh (driver) and Sajad Ahmad, both residents of Gulgam.
“Upon searching the vehicle, approximately 99 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered,” police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the apprehended individuals were actively involved in the illegal sale of narcotics within the area, specifically targeting local youth, police said.
