Police arrests 8 drug peddlers

SRINAGAR, Mar 16: Police today arrested eight drug peddlers in separate operations across Kashmir and seized contraband substance worth crores of rupees.
A police spokesperson said in Baramulla, the police, along with the Army’s Dagger Division, recovered one kilogram of narcotics worth crores of rupees concealed in a suspicious bag during a routine area domination patrol in village Churanda of Uri near Line of Control (LoC). He said preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were pushed into the area by Pakistan-based handlers to spread drug addiction among the youth.
In another incident, police intercepted a vehicle at Khanpora in Baramulla and recovered 20 grams of brown sugar from two persons on board. He said that the vehicle was seized, and the accused were arrested. “Similarly, in Uri, police raided a house and recovered 1 kg, 260 gm of Charas from the owner of the house,” he said.
He further said other operations in Kulgam and Awantipora led to the arrest of five drug peddlers and the recovery of codeine phosphate, Charas, and heroin. “All the arrested peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations, and cases have been registered under relevant sections of the law,” he said.
