Police arrests 9 gamblers with stake money

SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Police today claimed to have arrested nine gamblers at two different places in Srinagar and recovered a large amount of stake money from the gambling sites.
A police spokesperson said continuing its action against social crimes, police party of Police Station Sadder while on routine patrolling in Sannat Nagar area arrested five gamblers.
He added that gamblers were identified as Bashir Ahmad Choudhary, son of Ghulam Mohd Choudhary, Shabir Ahmad Khan, son of Bashir Ahmad Khan,  Aijaz Ahmad Beigh, son of Abdul Gani Beigh, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, son of Mohd Jamal Sheikh and Farooq Ahmad Dar son of late Ghulam Ahmad Dar, all residents of Aloochi Bagh Srinagar.
He further said stake money worth Rs 7,750 and gambling cards were recovered from the first gambling site.
A case FIR under 13 Gambling Act was registered and investigation has taken up, police said.
He said one more gambling site was raided by police party of Police Station Nigeen while on routine patrolling  and arrested four gamblers identified as Imtyaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Rafiq, Azad Ahmad Kakroo, son of Gh Qadir,  Mukhtyar Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Mohd residents of Nigeen and Fida Hussain Pota, son of Mohd Abbas resident of Sultan Mohalla Saidakadal.
He said the stake money worth Rs 2,250 and gambling cards were recovered from the spot.
A case FIR No. 168/2017 under 13 Gambling Act was registered against them.
