Police arrests another accomplice of deserter

Srinagar, Jan 21: Police tonight arrested second accomplice of a cop who deserted with four AK47 rifles from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district last week.
Police tonight arrested Aqib Bashir from Khadpora, Mimendar in South Kashmir’s Shopian district and recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine from his possession. The rifle that was recovered is the same which Constable Shakoor had fled with from SDPO office in Bijbehara last week.
Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 44 Rashtriya Rifles of Army raided a house tonight at Khadpora, Mimendar in Shopian after they received information about presence of Aqib and his another accomplice in the house. However, when they raided the house Aqib jumped out of window and tried to escape through orchards but security force personnel pounced upon him and arrested him.
Earlier, yesterday police arrested Gazi Fayaz Dar, 20, who was missing along with Constable Shakoor Ahmad and Aqib Bashir since January 13. One AK 47 rifle and 90 bullets were recovered from him. Fayaz was arrested from his native village Kundalan.
So far Police have arrested both the accomplices of the Constable Shakoor who had deserted the police last week and took away four AK-47 rifles. Out of the four rifles, two have been recovered. The hunt for Shakoor is on and police has got vital leads about his whereabouts.
