Police arrests bovine smuggler, rescues 21 animals, seizes 2 vehicles

SAMBA, July 15: Continuing its drive against bovine smugglers and their propagators, Samba Police has foiled two bovine smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Samba and Police Station (PS) Ghagwal respectively, arrested a bovine smuggler, rescued 21 bovines and seized two vehicles.
Police said a team of PS Samba headed by SHO Samba while performing vehicle checking duty at Naka Nud, intercepted a truck bearing Registration Number JK03F-4511 coming from Samba side for its checking. During checking of the vehicle, 16 bovines were found laden inside which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally without any valid permission. All the rescued bovines have been shifted to a safer place.
Police said the bovine smuggler identified as Razak Ahmed, son of Altaf Hussain of Asdhar tehsil and district Kishtwar has been arrested.
A case FIR No. 188/2024 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Samba and investigation has been started, police said.
Similarly, a police team of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal headed by SHO PS Ghagwal during special Naka near Railway Crossing Ghagwal, intercepted a Mahindra Balero pickup without Registration Number coming via border road for its checking. During checking of the vehicle, five bovines were found laden inside which were tied in a cruel manner and transported illegally without any valid permission, police said.
A case FIR No. 105/2024 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation is on.
