Police bust gang of thieves in Nagrota, recover stolen property worth Rs 81 lakhs

JAMMU, Apr 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted a gang involved in multiple thefts across the Nagrota sub-division, recovering stolen property worth approximately Rs 81 lakh.
Addressing media persons at Police Station Nagrota, SP Jammu Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma said that the gang was involved in stealing mobile tower radio units, electric wires, and gold ornaments from various locations falling under the jurisdiction of the Nagrota sub-division.
Based on specific intelligence inputs and effective coordination, he said, the police carried out swift operations that led to the arrest of several suspects.
In one of the cases, he said, Police Station Jhajjar Kotli arrested four individuals who confessed to stealing 23 mobile tower radio units (RUS 01 BO), each valued between Rs 2.5 to Rs 2.7 lakh.
The total value of the equipment recovered from their possession stood at around Rs 61 lakh, said the police officer.
He identified the accused as Basant Kumar of Nagrota, Ranjeet Singh and Devi Chand of Reasi, and Jatinder of UP.
He said this recovery also helped police solve two gold theft cases-one each in Nagrota and Jhajjar Kotli-with a total recovery of gold ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh.
While the accused in the Nagrota case, Sartaz Ahmed alias Kaka from Asrarabad Sidhra, has been arrested and is currently out on bail, the police are yet to make arrest in the Jhajjar Kotli theft case, he said.
The police officer claimed that in addition to this, two cases of wire theft were also cracked.
In the first case, related to the theft of LTAB cables from the Nagrota area, property worth Rs 7 lakh was recovered, he said, adding that in the second case from Sidhra, electric wires valued at Rs 2 lakh were recovered.
The total value of stolen property recovered during this operation stands at Rs 81 lakh, added the SP Jammu Rural.
