Srinagar, Feb 28: Police today claimed to have busted an extortionist gang, who were extorting money from people, including Panchs and Sarpanchs in some villages of Kulgam district by faking as militants.
A police spokesman said that the gang had instilled fear among people by using toy guns and HM letter pads. The gang was operating in Yaripora and Behibagh villages of Kulgam.
The extortionists have been identified as Javid Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Razak Lone, Showket Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Rasool and Zubair Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone, all residents Shedcheck, Zainapora in Shopian district.
The spokesman said that a case FIR Number 16/2015 under Section 420,386,506 RPC was registered in Yaripora Police Station and the accused are being questioned and efforts are on to arrest the rest of the accused in the case.
