Police busts gang of burglars

SRINAGAR, Apr 6: A gang of burglars was busted and stolen property worth lakhs was recovered in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, authorities said today.
According to reports on March 22, 2024, Police Station Gund received a written application from Tajamul Hussain, owner of Hung Park Restaurant, stating that during the intervening night of March 21-22, 2024, unknown persons broke locks and entered his restaurant, stealing valuable items.

The stolen items include a generator, two inverter units, a transformer, a coffee machine, a griller/toaster, a gas stove, gas cylinders, utensils, electric cables, damaged CCTV cameras, and other items, police said.
Upon receiving the application, police registered FIR No.11/2024 under relevant sections of the law at PS Gund and initiated an investigation.
A special team was constituted on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan.
“The Police Party of PS Gund, led by SHO Inspector Lateef Ali, zeroed in on a few suspects and began pursuing them,” police said.
During this process, suspect Irshad Ahmad Kalwatho, son of Abdul Rashid Kalwatho, resident of Naninara, Sumbal, was apprehended, “and during sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime and also disclosed the identities of the other accused persons, namely Feroze Ahmad Kalwatho, son of Farooq Ahmad Kalwatho, and Mohd Saleem Kalu alias Jana, son of Abdul Khaliq Kalu, both residents of Naninara, Sumbal, who were involved in the commission of the crime.
Upon disclosure by the accused persons, stolen property worth lakhs was recovered from different spots in Naninara, Sumbal, police said.
“Further questioning led to the recovery of more stolen property, revealing previously unreported theft cases in the JD by this notorious gang.”
Additionally, a Tata Mobile bearing Registration No. JK01M 6083, used for the commission of the crime, has been seized, police said.
“Further investigation is ongoing, and the arrest of a few more accused and recovery of more stolen property are expected,” police said.
