GAZA, May 2 : Authorities on the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) campus early on Thursday demolished a pro-Palestinian campsite that had been set up in support of continuing protests.
Hundreds of protestors were arrested during the operation, which came after a heated standoff between police and protesters who wouldn’t go.
After mobilising throughout the night, police faced protestors who were refusing to leave the area or risk being arrested. Tensions increased as police broke down barriers and tents, which led to altercations with some residents of the camp. According to reports, before the police intervened, there were fights between protestors and counterprotesters, which turned violent.
At least 20 people were charged in New York as, around the nation, the fallout from the protests echoed through the legal system. (UNI)
