Speaking to reporters after paying obeisance at the Chattipadshahi Gurudwara in Srinagar on the occasion of Baisakhi, IGP Birdi said they are working consistently to uphold law and order and protect the public from rising social threats, including drug abuse.
“J&K Police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people. We have been relentlessly fighting against drug abuse and terrorism, and this effort will continue. We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace or ruin the lives of our youth,” he said.
When asked about the emerging threat of narco-terrorism, the IGP said the force is treating it as a serious challenge and is operating in “mission mode” to combat it. “In the last two years, we have significantly intensified our crackdown on drug peddlers. A large number of FIRs have been registered, many accused arrested, and properties seized under legal provisions,” he noted.
Birdi added that these actions are aimed at setting a strong deterrent and protecting society from the harmful impact of drugs and the criminal networks associated with them. He further said that the police remain dedicated to creating a safe environment where people can live, work, and move freely without fear.
On the occasion, Birdi also prayed for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. “Festivals bring people together and provide an opportunity to seek blessings,” he said.
