Srinagar, Nov 14: Cracking down on illegal mining of minerals, the police, in collaboration with the District Mineral Office (DMO) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, today raided several houses in the Chakloo areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla, where illegally mined sand was dumped.
According to the police, the raid was conducted by a police party under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla, assisted by SHO Baramulla, along with officers from the District Mineral and Irrigation & Flood Control Department.
“The raids will continue in Chakloo village so that the accused are booked under the law,” the police stated.
Accordingly, an FIR under relevant sections of the law has been registered at the Police Station Baramulla, and investigations have been initiated.
The police noted that in the Baramulla district, 181 cases against illegal mining of minerals and soil have been registered so far, with 473 persons arrested for their involvement in the extraction and transportation of minerals during the current year.
“Moreover, 472 vehicles used in the illegal transport of minerals have also been seized from different areas of the district,” the police added.
