RAJOURI, Oct 13: The police has failed to trace the vehicle which was involved in `hit and run’ case at Narian under Chingus Police jurisdiction on late Monday evening.
Reports said that a Winger which was on way to Rajouri from Jammu side, hit Capt (Retd) Mohan Singh when he was returning his home on bike near Narian at around 8.30 pm. The retired Defence personnel died after some time in hospital at Nowshera.
The relatives of the deceased and villagers of the area held strong protest on Tuesday and also blocked Jammu-Poonch road at Narian for about five hours. The people were holding protest demanding arrest of the driver and trace the vehicle. The SSP and ADC had assured prompt action but till late this evening, the vehicle could not be traced. The people also lodged brief protest at the village.
About three weeks back, two motor-cycle borne youth were killed by an unknown truck near Alpha Army Gate at Rajouri. The police could not trace the vehicle and arrest the accused driver till today. Another person was killed by unknown vehicle near Dhani Dhar at Rajouri hardly a month back and that vehicle too, could not be traced. The people were raising finger at the police functioning in Rajouri. A senior police official when contacted said that a special team will be set up to solve these cases.
