Police foils 2 bovine smuggling bids

JAMMU, Aug 29: Jammu police have thwarted two attempts of bovine smuggling in the Nagrota sub-division.
In the first case, a team of Nagrota Police Station intercepted a vehicle (registration number JK12A/2805) on the National Highway near Rajan Bar, rescuing 16 bovines. The driver, Abdul Majid, a resident of Ragoora, Jammu, was arrested on the spot. In the second incident, officials from the Jhajjar Kotli Police Station rescued 14 bovines from a vehicle (registration number JK02CQ-1123) at the Suketar Naka. The driver managed to escape, abandoning the vehicle on the road.
In total, 30 bovines were rescued, and two vehicles were seized. In this connection, two FIRs were registered: FIR No. 199/2024 under Section 223/BNS 11 PCA Act at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station, and FIR No. 233/2024 under Section 223 BNS 11 PCA Act and Sections 50/52/54/56 of the Transport of Animals Rules, 1978, at Nagrota Police Station.
Further investigations are ongoing in both cases.
