JAMMU, Nov 29: Police in Jammu’s Miran Sahib area successfully thwarted a major smuggling attempt of electrical equipment by a notorious gang, despite being attacked with stones and gunfire.
According to a police official, around 2:00-2:30 am today, the Miran Sahib Police Station received a tip-off about a gang that had previously stolen electrical equipment from Bari Brahmana, Janipur, and Talli Morh areas.
He said the tip indicated that five to six members of the gang were once again attempting to commit theft in Talli Morh area in the jurisdiction of Miran Sahib Police Station.
The police team swiftly responded and arrived at the scene, cornering the gang members while urging them to surrender, he said.
However, the suspects retaliated by throwing stones and later firing at the officers, allowing them to escape, said the police official.
They left behind a vehicle, registered in Ramban (JK19A-5782), which the police have seized, he said.
An investigation is underway to track down the remaining members of the gang, added the police official.
Notably, two gang members, involved in prior thefts in Bari Brahmana and Janipur, are already in custody at Police Station Bari Brahmana, where they are being interrogated by officers from both Janipur and Bari Brahmana Police Stations.
