SRINAGAR, Nov 6: Police today foiled Government employees’ march to Divisional Commissioner’s office here this afternoon.
Police used force and stopped hundreds of employees at Bemina Chowk here while they were heading towards the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department complex to take part in the march towards the Divisional Commissioner’ office.
However, a group of employees managed to reach the Divisional Commissioner’s office and handed over a memorandum containing demands of the employees to Dr. Asgar Samoon. The employees said that the State Government has already agreed in principle to fulfill their demands adding that the Government has no reason to back out from the agreement.
Morning hundreds of employees of Industrial Training Institute Bemina, Government Polytechnic Bemina, Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education and Power Development Department assembled on the Bemina byepass. The employees raised slogans in support of their demands and urged the Government to speed up the process of fulfilling the demands of the employees.
The protesting employees tried to carry out a procession towards the office of CAPD at Shaheed Gunj to join the other employees.
However, the police did not allow the employees to move forward.
Addressing the employees, senior JCC leader and general secretary, ITI Employees Union, Mohammad Abbas warned that the employees would intensify their agitation in support of their demands. Abbas impressed upon the Government to regularize the services of daily wagers and consolidated workers.
A group of Government employees under the banner of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) led by Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam presented a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir about the demands of the employees. He was accompanied by Farooq Trali, Haji Bashir Ahmad, Peer Nisar Ahmad, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori and Malik Fayaz.
