JAMMU, Mar 4: Police today foiled the rally of Power Development Department (PDD) casual labourers towards Civil Secretariat.
On the 14th day of the protest demonstration, hundreds of PDD casual labourers across Jammu region assembled at Bhagwati Nagar under the banner of All J&K Causal Labourers Union and marched towards Civil Secretariat in the shape of a rally. But they were stopped by the heavy deployment of the police near Canal Road.
After the police action, the aggrieved causal labourers sat on the road and disrupted the vehicular movement on the most-busy Canal Road.
Addressing the gathering, the union leaders appealed to the Finance Minister to announce Rs 6.50 crore strictly for disbursement of wages among the casual labourers.
After lapse of over six months, the Government has failed to publish the list of all the causal labourers in the newspapers and PDD website, they added.
The union leaders urged the Chief Minister as well as Power Minister to publish the list of all the causal labourers at the earliest and punish those, who were behind in the delay of the same.
“In case the Government fails to redress their grievances, All J&K PDD Casual Labourers Union, J&K Daily Wagers Joint Action Forum ad J&K PDD/ PDC Daily Wagers/ Casual Labourers Union will jointly come on roads and hold protest in aggressive manner and for any untoward incident, the Government will be responsible”, union leaders warned.
