Srinagar, Sept 13: Police today foiled the protest march of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to Civil Secretariat by MLAs against the killings of civilians in South Kashmir’s Shopian district last week.
Holding placards in the hands and shouting Anti-Government slogans, the PDP MLAs led by its president Mehbooba Mufti took out a protest march from party headquarters near General Post Office towards Civil Secretariat. The march was intercepted by the heavy contingent of police deployed at Regal Chowk.
Mehbooba and her workers tried hard to proceed toward the Secretariat and broke the police cordon, but failed to proceed as police again put strict restrictions on their movement.
Addressing a gathering at Regal Chowk, Mehbooba Mufti said that the present Government has claimed many innocent lives in which 90 per cent were youth including school and college student and the security forces responsible for the killing were not punished so far.
Mehbooba said that the Centre is not taking any action against the accused CRPF personnel’s while the State Government was also not accountable for the killings led by police.
PDP president blamed that the Government was compelling the youth to indulge in stone pelting, so that people would boycott the upcoming elections which would benefit National Conference.
Mehbooba Mufti demanded action against the forces involved in the killings of youth from 2010 and called for the removal of forces from the civilian areas.
The PDP president slammed the Chief Minister for failing to reach out to youth, saying that the youth of Kashmir were facing alienation on the part of the Government.
