JAMMU, Jan 28:  The refugees from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) held strong  demonstration and took out protest march in support of their long pending demands here today.
A large number of refugees including women, under the banner of  Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front led by Rachhpal Singh Chib assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club and held strong protest demonstration. They were demanding release of package for their one time settlement. They raised slogans in support of their demands.
They were also demanding implementation of the recommendations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee without any delay. They said the de-freezing of eight Assembly seats for the PoJK displaced persons and  Rs 30 lakh compensation for the refugees besides reservation to their wards, are some of the major recommendations given in favour of refugees by the 30-member JPC and there should not be more delay on the same.
Mr Chib and other refugee leaders strongly condemned the attitude of some Kashmir based leaders including Hurriyat for opposing JPC recommendations and alleged that they stand exposed. They said that citizenship rights to the West Pakistan refugees and de-freezing of eight Assembly seats for refugee members are right decisions taken by the panel and the people who are opposing this have no right to speak against refugees who are struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They warned the Hurriyat and other  Kashmir based leaders and asked them not to create hurdles in the settlement of their  issues.
After staging protest demonstration the refugees took out protest rally towards Gumat Bazar but the strong contingent of  police intercepted them and foiled their proposed protest march towards Governor House. The protesting refugees showed some resistance but failed and later dispersed.
