Police foils retired SRTC workers’ rally

JAMMU, Dec 16: An anti-Government protest rally of  the VRS/GHS (retd)  accorded employees  of  the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC)  was foiled by police near Dogra Chowk here today.
A large number workers  under the banner of All J&K SRTC Volunteer Retired Employees Association led by Dev Raj Bali assembled near Press Club and started protest demonstration in support of their demands. They were raising loud slogans against the SRTC Management and the State Finance and Transport departments.
Carrying banners and placards, they projected their demands raising loud slogans. They alleged that despite many dharnas, representations  and  meetings, the Management of the SRTC has failed to address their pending issues.
They are demanding that their pending dues be cleared as the State Finance Department said to have paid Rs 30 crore to the Corporation for this purpose.  They demanded that pending 6th Pay Commission arrears, 126 slabs of COLA  be paid without any more delay.
As they started their protest rally towards Civil Secretariat at around 11 am from Exhibition Ground, a strong contingent of police intercepted them and made to disperse near Dogra Chowk. The workers showed some resistance but could not succeed.
Prominent among others included  Kulbir Singh, B V Sharma, Prem Nath, Surjit Singh, Asan Elahi, D N Sharma, Sain Mohd and Subash Singh.
