Police gets Daand on 9 more days remand

JAMMU, Sept 23: A Munsiff in Kishtwar district today extended police remand of top militant Mehraj-ud-Din Wani alias Javed alias Daand by 9 days.
Reports said police registered another FIR against Daand at Kishtwar police station for his involvement in militant activities and took him on remand for 9 days in new case.
His remand in the previous case registered against him after his arrest from Batote-Ramban stretch of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was about to expire in couple of days.
Police today registered another FIR listing involvement of Mehraj-ud-Din Wani in various subversive activities and produced him at the residence of the Munsiff in Kishtwar. After hearing police version, the Munsiff gave police nine days remand of Daand.
Police said they required custody of Daand as his interrogation was yet to be completed in many cases.
Several investigating agencies were engaged in questioning of Daand, who was the longest surviving militant since 1987 and had been operating in Pakistan, Nepal and India including Jammu and Kashmir.
