JAMMU, Feb 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued a clarification with regard to the operation of a wait list of candidates in two border battalions.
A police spokesperson said that the Police Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir recently established a committee tasked with managing the waitlist and recommending suitable candidates for the position of Constable in two border battalions.
He said this initiative followed the finalization of recruitment and the publication of a select list via PHQ order number 668 of 2023, dated February 27, 2023, which saw 961 candidates appointed as Constables.
However, over time, he added that 55 vacancies emerged due to 49 candidates failing to join the J&K Police Department and six not meeting mandatory requirements. Of these vacancies, the police spokesperson said, 36 were in the open merit category, while 19 were in other reserved categories.
During the operation of the waiting list for the open merit category, he said, 20 reserved category candidates, who had already been selected, were shifted to the open merit category as they demonstrated higher merit than candidates on the waitlist under the open merit category.
Consequently, an equal number of vacancies emerged in the corresponding reserved categories, allowing candidates on the reserved category waitlist to be considered for the position of Constable, said the police spokesperson.
“As a result of this principle, 20 vacancies originally allocated to the Open Merit (OM) category were filled by reserved category candidates,” he clarified.
“This approach ensures fairness in the selection process and enables deserving candidates to secure employment opportunities within the J&K Police Department,” said the police spokesperson.
